Biosand Filter Project

As you can see from the map below, Nzoia's water problem is not one of scarcity.

The majority of the drinking sources in Nzoia come from unclean surface water. Even a wealth of water is not good if it causes sickness. The villagers of Nzoia need clean water for their families. They need a filtration system that is simple and sustainable.

In January 2014, Well Water Global constructed 6 biosand filters alongside community members to provide safe drinking water for the families in this community. Each of these jumbo biosand filters supply clean water for 40 people for 10-15 years with very little maintenance. This project also involves an education program to teach proper sanitation practices (what good is clean water in a dirty cup?) and filter maintenance.
